Roadspeed — Privacy Policy

Last updated 15 August 2026

Roadspeed warns drivers about speed cameras and speed limits, and keeps a record of their drives. This policy explains exactly what stays on your phone and what does not.

The short version. Your routes, your positions and your drive history never leave your phone. The speed camera database is bundled with the app, so checking what is ahead of you does not involve asking anyone. Two features can send something, and both are optional and can be switched off: community reports and the leaderboard.

What stays on your device

Deleting the app removes all of it. Individual drives, and the whole history, can be deleted from inside the app.

Community reports (optional)

If report sharing is on, filing a report sends the type of report (police, hazard, roadworks and so on), the position of the thing you are reporting, an optional heading, and a random identifier generated on first run. That identifier is not linked to you, your device, or any account; it exists so the backend can rate-limit and count one vote per install.

Reports expire on a timer that depends on their type, from 45 minutes for police to 90 days for a speed bump, and are then deleted.

Turning sharing off in Settings stops both sending and receiving. Nothing then leaves the phone.

Leaderboard (optional, off by default)

Nothing is sent until you join a board. Joining creates an anonymous identity: a random id and a secret key, both kept only on your phone. There is no account, no email, no password and no contact list.

What is sent while you are on a board:

Your routes and positions are not sent. "Hide me from the boards" stops others seeing your row. "Leave" deletes your name, picture and figures from the server; if the request cannot be delivered at the time, it is retried automatically.

Third parties

There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking software of any kind in this app. No data is sold or shared with data brokers.
